I can hardly believe that it is already back to school time for my seniors! It is the last weekend of the summer and even though it is feeling like fall in Michigan, the thought of fall is so foreign right now in Florida! It is still averaging over 100 degrees! I’m so happy it was sunny and warm for Selena’s senior session when I was back in Michigan in August! It was the perfect dreamy light!
It was so wonderful to see Selena again! I had the blessing to have this girl in my first hour class last year! Selena is such a joy and such a fierce friend! She was always going out of her way to make sure her friends knew they were loved and cared for! Now, I could very quickly get super emotional here as I write this, because I really can’t even begin to convey how much it meant to me not only as a teacher but as a person to see how kind this girl is.
Those of you reading this can likely remember what high school was like or you are in high school right now. It certainly isn’t easy. It is filled with so many choices, challenges, and changes, and navigating them all is like a full-time job. There are so many responsibilities and pressures coming from all sorts of people, groups, clubs, sports, family, etc. It is overwhelming and frankly, I stood in awe as my students navigated all of this. While I thought high school was incredibly busy when I was there, it seems to just keep getting crazier! It really leaves such little time for anyone to have their priorities figured out and to make time for their friends and family.
This is where Selena shines! While she has/had plenty to do, she always made the effort to show how much she cared. She doesn’t let the craziness of life get in the way of being there for the people she cares for. Selena always shows love to those around her. It is for this reason and many others, that I am confident she will be such a success. The world needs more Selena’s-more kindness and eagerness to help others. Selena, thank you so much for such a fun evening and I can’t wait to see you in a couple weeks for your fall session!
